Letting Go

An attempt at a limerick...

The unrelenting clench of the fist
Feeding that lone vein on the wrist
Holding tight
Ready to fight
Knotting up feelings in a twist

It tries so hard to hold on
It won’t let you move on
You’re stuck for sure
Can’t see no cure
There just isn’t a sign of dawn

It’s a gruelling effort, that’s a fact
I won’t apologize for my lack of tact
A constant struggle
An emotional juggle
There’s no guarantee you’ll make it out intact

But once you’re out, it’s a moment like no other
The fingers start to unclench one another
The contents flow out
Like water from a spout
And your old smile you finally begin to uncover

The wind against your palm starts to blow
That shine in your eyes regains its glow
You can finally breathe
And sigh in relief
And honestly say you’ve let go.
